About AIFS Single

AIFS Single is ECMWF's machine-learning forecast, run operationally alongside HRES. It has no equations of motion and no parametrised convection; it learned how the atmosphere evolves from forty years of reanalysis, and produces a fifteen-day global forecast in minutes on a single accelerator.
It is drawn in exactly the same colours as HRES, and that is the point. Open Map options → Compare & verify and HRES is drawn over it at the same valid time, or subtracted from it on a diverging scale about zero.
The grid is 0.25°, about 28 km, against 0.1° for HRES. That is what the model publishes, not a compromise: its value is in the pattern at day seven, not the texture at hour six.
Why it is on this site. It is the control. Same centre, same open-data plumbing, same cycles as the IFS it sits beside — so AIFS minus IFS is a genuinely clean subtraction, with no difference in resolution, format or timing to explain away.
