IFS HRES is ECMWF's physical model, the yardstick every learned model on this site is measured against. It solves the equations of motion on a grid, and its errors grow in ways forecasters have studied for decades.
Every other model here is read against this one. Pick AIFS or WeatherNext 2 under Compare & verify to see where a learned model departs from the physics.
Why it is on this site. Nothing on this site means anything without it in the frame. A learned model that is better is only interesting relative to what it is better than.
